21 nov 2024 Canada (Ozi Overseas): Service Canada has temporarily halted the mailing of 85,000 passports as a result of the ongoing Canada Post strike, which commenced on November 15, 2024, leading to significant disruptions in mail delivery across the country. The strike has arisen from disputes among Canada Post employees regarding wages, working conditions, and various other concerns, ultimately impacting millions of Canadians who rely on postal services. Notably, the suspension of passport mailing has been in effect since November 8, 2024, prior to the official strike announcement. Mila Roy, a spokesperson for Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), indicated that Service Canada proactively withheld residential mail several days before the work stoppage to mitigate the risk of passports being stranded in Canada Post distribution centers. Consequently, Canadians who submitted their passport applications prior to the strike are now experiencing delays, and Service Canada has confirmed that processing of these applications will remain on hold until normal mail services are restored.
